A Piece of Me

A fight for attention:

“How dare you give her so much time?

What about me!? I deserve and demand all of it!”

She disagrees, she wants more of me.

It’s never enough, the more I give, the more they want.

The tentacles of internet reach me from across the world,

Ghosts from the past

Distant family

People who should be lost to me

Cross the distance

Travel the seas

Reach my brain and heart

With their misty fingers

and their piercing voices

“What about me? I want to talk to you!

Answer me! Entertain me! I demand it!”

They all want a piece of me.

Let’s dismember me

A piece of nose for you

Here, some fingertips

Let’s start with the extremities

Working toward the heart.

Once I am all gone

Their hunger satisfied

They’ll still fight to know

Who got the biggest piece of me.
